200-Hour Teacher Training Syllabus

Anatomy & Physiology

The Yoga Diploma teacher training course has a strong focus on safety and alignment during the practise of Yoga. Over more than 20 contact hours we will focus on structural and more importantly safe alignment of pelvic girdle, pectoral girdle, lower limbs, upper limbs, abdomen, head, neck. We will apply the principles of anatomy and physiology to yoga with the emphasis on how to modify the traditional posture to guarantee the accessibility to the Asana. As part of this module we will also study the importance of Yoga for the glandular system and internal organs, including modifications for common medical conditions, including subtle anatomy and its relevance to yoga. Within the yogic health system we will also study Kriyas, Bandhas and Mudras.

Pranayama

Pranayama (breathing techniques) will be introduced in a very early stage of the training to insure a healthy and mindful attitude to the breath and cultivating the understanding of the guided breath and the well-being. This will include the anatomical and physically aspects of the benefit of yoga on the respiratory system.

Asana

We will be covering a broad range of traditional yoga postures in detail. These Asana were chosen carefully to guarantee the development of strength, awareness and flexibility and provides detailed instruction in how best to teach and modify the postures. Part of this module will be the focus on Krama Yoga, intelligent sequencing. The right sequencing of the postures within a lesson plan or course will not only guarantee safety of the class but also create the right environment for the classes needs and ability. Meditation and Relaxation&Yoga Nidra

Throughout the training we will practice, study theory and learn to teach these disciplines. Yoga Nidra, the ancient tantric technique and meditation are integral aspects of understanding and practising yoga as an integrated discipline. Yoga Philosophy & Ethics

This module offers a deep overview of the origins of yoga. We will study some of the ancient verdic texts such as the Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita, including its meaning for our modern society.

Teaching Skills Practicum

This module includes practice teaching, receiving feedback on your teaching, observing others while teaching, and assisting students while someone else is teaching. A hands-on module that provides a progressive approach to teaching yoga and planning classes.

Teaching Methodology

Guided, safe practice and approach forms an integral part of this module. We create a supportive, caring environment to enable trainee teachers to develop their intuition and teaching skills. We will pay close attention to presentation, observation and listening sills and qualities of a teacher. Special attentions is paid also to principles of assisting and correcting students when teaching.

Business Studies

This module will cover aspects of course planning and the dealing with occurring business related problems: when, how and why running economical effective yoga classes and courses.

Assignments

There will be a range of written and practical assignments throughout the training that cover yoga theory and practical yoga teaching. At the end of the training, each student must complete and pass a theory and practical exam in order to become a fully qualified yoga teacher.
